Final Contents Page

Second Contents Page

This is my final contents page and in this version I tried lay everything out in a more organised way instead of having it all over the place however, I still kept the packed look as people in my survey and interview said they thought a packed layout would be most fitting for a rock magazine. I've improved this one from my draft therefore I also added in contents conventions I realized were missing like issue no. and date, page numbers by the featured images (changing their sizes to relate to their importance in the magazine) and I also added who took the photo of the front cover and an editors note - both features I noticed in existing magazines that I thought would be interesting and effective to add on my contents page. I also changed it to A4 to make sure I'm placing everything on the proper page size . In the text, I highlighted in red the important words which would stand out to the reader and make it easier for them find what they're looking for or what interests them, putting them under sub-headings which is usual in magazines. I felt it would look more appealing by having some images in bordered boxes and some just cut out to grab the attention of the reader. Throughout, I've kept in mind the feeback from the survey, interview and peer reviews and kept the colour scheme which is black, red and grey, put quite a lot of images to keep the reader engaged as most thought less text was more suitable so I spread out the text by the images and made the rest smaller to take up less room on the page -making it look like there's lots of images, and I made the laguage casual as most suggested a rock magazine should have informal text.

Contents Page Draft

First Contents Page

This was my first contents page I did. Some aspects were effective and looked part of a rock magazine however, it was still unfinished and wasn't layed out efficiently with the images too close together and the text spaced out with white space. Also, the size of the page wasn't A4 which affected the layout space and how they were presented. At the bottom, there's the wrong page number and the magazine logo wasn't needed as it's on by 'contents' and there isn't an issue no. or date.
However, I think the subscription and competition ads work well with the genre of the magazine. I also find the images in the photo frames are effective as they're creative and would catch the attention of the reader. Although I've added on a photo from my front cover model, I should also add or replace on of the images with one of the DPS photos as that's what would be featuring in the magazine so should be displayed clearly on where to find the feature article.

Contents Page Pencil Sketches

These are the pencil sketches of possible layouts I can use for my contents page. I looked at some existing rock magazines to get a wider range of ideas of contents page layouts and conventions.
