For my first DPS draft, I used the image on the left side as that is the most conventional style though I did also experiment with having the image on the right side as that may be the page to catch a reader's attention more as it's the page they see first when they turn over. I also looked at having the image facing the opposite direction.
For the page that will have the text and the article on, I used a grey background as it's light and the writing would be clear against it and also because most people suggested the use of black, red and grey for the colour scheme in my interview and survey.
This is my first draft of the double page spread. I tried to follow the conservative style of a feature article in a magazine by having the headline with a stand first below followed by a quote from the article. However with this layout, I find that one side is busy and packed, which some readers like in magazines, but the other is plain and in my opinion makes it less eye-catching. I also find that this style is less common in rock magazines anyway.
